The Great Island Boat Yard offers "shipyard” capabilities with the personal and friendly service of a small family business.
The Owners
Steve and Stephanie Rowe left General Electric to take the helm at Great Island in 2005. Both Steve and Stephanie are engineers by degree but have worked in many capacities and many industries ranging from small family businesses in New England to power plant construction in Asia and Europe. Steve’s last role at GE was General Manager of GE Environmental Services business. The boatyard is a refreshing change. The Rowes have two young boys, Gavin and Keegan, and they live directly across the cove from the boatyard. The Rowes have made a long-term commitment to Harpswell, Maine and to building a quality boat yard and marina.
The Crew
Our crew of twenty, year-round craftsmen is our most important asset. The capability, pride and detail of our crew allow us to care for the fleet of quality boats that are entrusted to us. We seek out technicians who want to be the very best and then give them the tools and training they need to achieve that.
The Business
Great Island Boat Yard cares for 200 boats and keeps 100 in the marina for the summer. Over half of our customers come to us from other New England states. A parade of boats makes the 105-mile trip between Great Island Boat Yard and the Cape Cod Canal every spring and fall. We paint, repair, repower, and "refit” dozens of boats annually.
