When we hauled out Dreadnought in November, she went straight into the paint bay for a complete Awlgrip job to her hull.  This yacht is built of cold molded mahogany with an outer layer of West System epoxy.  Over time, the shrinkage in the epoxy had become distorted post-cure, and it was time to bring her hull back to a smooth, fair surface.  

Our paint crew, Al and Nate, started with glass repairs and applying Awlfair epoxy filler; followed by lots of sanding and fairing, and then several coats of high build epoxy primer.  Next, more sanding and then five coats of finish primer.  Finally, one last sanding with 400 grit, and then three top coats of Flag Blue Awlgrip paint were applied.  

After a couple of weeks curing, it was time to come out of the paint bay.  This kind of attention to detail has restored Dreadnought’s finish to “like new” condition!
