Rigger

Safe Harbor Great Island is currently seeking a full-time, year-round employee to join our Rigging team. Successful candidate will be a detail oriented and energetic team player looking for physical work in a lively environment. Work includes, but is not limited to, stepping/unstepping masts, bending/unbending sails, cleaning/servicing winches, servicing steering systems, and assembling davits.

Previous experience and a sailing background is preferred, but not required. We will train the right candidate.

Prerequisites include having a valid driver’s license and the ability to lift heavy objects and bend/crouch, as necessary. Having one’s own ditty bag and tools is a must.

Business Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Business Manager is responsible for assisting in the management of many elements of the organization, staff management and development, administrative support and services that contribute to achieving the business goals and the effective management of the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive and process payments
  • Generate reports to assure accuracy in billing for slip, storage, and service work
  • Lead general office duties such as, answering phones, processing incoming mail, filing, data entry, and ordering office supplies
  • Provide facility tours when requested
  • Assist in the hiring process of new employees including:
    • Processing of background checks
    • Handbook Training
    • Completing Onboarding Paperwork
    • Applying for IT Login Permissions
    • Answering Questions on Benefits Enrollment
  • Train new employees on multiple IT systems and work with IT to ensure employee access to these systems
  • Assist employees experiencing IT difficulties to interface with the IT department and make sure that issues are quickly resolved
  • Provide administrative assistant duties to the General Manager as needed
  • Available to work overtime when required

TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years’ relevant experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient with General computer skills
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

Technician (Carpenter)

Position Summary

The Technician (Carpenter) will be responsible for the layout, new construction and repair of interior joinery; the restoration of wooden boat framing / flooring / planking; and the maintenance & installation of teak decks.  Safe Harbor Great Island stores and maintains over 240 vessels, with over 150 inside heated buildings.  There is a large, well lit and well equipped carpentry shop on site.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to plan, estimate, layout and complete carpentry projects
  • Conduct repair work and installation of custom interior boat joinery
  • Knowledge of wooden boat construction and repair techniques
  • Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment
  • Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • Basic math skills required, advanced math skills preferred
  • Experience reading, understanding and following construction drawings and procedures
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder carrying personal tools
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

Diesel Technician

Position Summary

Diesel Technicians inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel engines and marine drive systems.  Safe Harbor Great Island is an authorized dealer and service center for Volo Penta, Volvo IPS, Cummins, Mercruiser Diesel, Yanmar and Westerbeke.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot maintain, and repair multiple OEM brands of diesel engines on boats of all kinds.
  • Conduct all facets of engine repower projects.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging to remove and install engines and transmissions.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to diagnose issues and identify action plans.
  • Access on line parts manuals across OEM brands to identify and source parts.
  • Overall knowledge of marine drive systems including vibration troubleshooting and alignment.
  • Must possess own tools
  • Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • Diesel Technical school training required
  • 5 years’ or greater experience required
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder carrying personal tools
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

Dock Hand (Marina)

Position Summary

Dock Hand will be responsible for assisting with and carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve Marina objectives. Dock Hand will be involved with preparing vessels for launching and hauling – assisting with towing and securing boats, fueling boats, black water pump out, setting up/breaking down tenders, etc. Dock Hand will be responsible for preparing/breaking down marina facilities (spring and fall), and servicing/repairing floats and all associated water and electrical systems. During the shoulder and off-seasons, Dock Hand will assist with pressure washing and blocking boats, bottom painting, and vessel detailing, as well as general yard and facilities maintenance tasks, including routine cleaning to meet established quality standards for all marina related operations. This is a year-round position.

  • Ability to repair docks and associated water/electrical systems
  • Availability to work tides and overtime when necessary
