Sabre 52 | Teak Treads

Our carpentry shop is turning out new teak treads for a Sabre 52, as the owners deemed the original cherry treads (with raised, contrasting edges) worn and a bit too slippery. Rather than refinishing the existing treads, or trying a crushed walnut non-skid application, they opted for custom-made teak pads. First, to fabricate, Matt hand-milled the wood to the desired thickness. Then he established a grain and groove pattern that allows each uniquely shaped step to relate to the next. Next, he will refinish the original cherry treads, to clean them up, before oiling and securing each piece in place.
