This Jarvis Newman 46 was built by Lyman Morse in 1984. Previously owned by singer-songwriter and musician, Jonathan Edwards, she is back at GIBY under new ownership, this time for a full makeover! After meeting our GIBY team at the Newport Boat Show, the current owner decided to cruise all the way from Charleston to Harpswell, to work with the GIBY crew. “This boat has good bones,” says GIBY owner, Steve Rowe. “We have a long history working on her. In 2008, we did a refit/repower job that included a new engine, a new generator, new refrigeration, and a new inverter charging system.” The current refit, will include refinishing the entire exterior of the boat, as well as other vessel and systems updates. Awlgrip will be applied to the hull, flybridge, and decks, which will also be treated with fresh non-skid. New stainless rails and portlights will be mounted, stanchions and hardware will be rebedded, new Isinglass and canvas door covers will be fabricated, and a new holding tank and macerator will be installed. In addition, all of the exterior brightwork (doors, toe rails, trim, etc) will be sanded and varnished. Finally, spray rails will be added to the hull for a classy, traditional touch. When all is complete, the captain will find himself stationed in comfort at a new Stidd helm seat!

This fast paced refit is tightly scheduled and will be completed in under 10 weeks, minimizing loss of valuable time underway. “Our project management methods and dedicated team allow us to successfully turnaround a project like this, even in the middle of our spring rush,” says Steve. The “before” photo, here, along with the architectural rendering, provide a sneak peek at what the end result will be. Until then, the boat owner is receiving photographs of the project in process, along with weekly progress reports. Stay tuned…
