Refit: Bristol 57

This Bristol custom sailboat was a signature refit project for GIBY in the fall of 2012.  During the job, our project management skills and “make it happen” mantra were put to the test.  We hauled the boat on October 18th…51 days and 2,450 man hours later, the refit Corsair left our dock and sailed straight on to Bermuda!  The diversity of trades working on the boat, combined with a short time frame, required a lot of teamwork, coordination, and perseverance by all.

Work Scope:

  • Awlgrip Hull & House
  • Glass Repairs
  • New Hull Windows
  • Refurbished Hatches
  • Head Hoses
  • SSB
  • Pactor Modem
  • AIS
  • Electronics Repairs
  • Instrument Repairs
  • Galley Carpentry Modifications
  • Winch Service
  • Centerboard Sheave Replacement
  • New Canvas & Cushions
  • Runners
  • New Storm Sails
  • Running Rigging
  • Carbon Rig Repairs
  • …and more!

The most memorable part was the Sunday night before the scheduled launch, half a dozen of our crew voluntarily stayed on into the night to get the centerboard jacked back up into the boat.  The commitment to achieving the schedule, despite multiple set-backs, was moving…and they made it happen.

I’ve passed along your inquiry to a service manager, in case there’s an opportunity to connect. Busy days at the boat yard!
