Our systems technicians have updated the charging system on an Oyster 53. The new Victron inverter/charger, designed to reduce dependency on the boat’s generator and engine, will improve monitoring capabilities by providing real-time data regarding power usage. This information will be displayed at the DC panel, on the Garmin chart plotter, and remotely via a Bluetooth-enabled device. With this upgrade, the boat owner will know how much time he has before he needs to run the generator/engine and when he has reached 100% capacity and can shut down external power supplies. Newly integrated solar panels will also help to maintain batteries and enable refrigeration units to run, even for days, while on a mooring or at anchor.
